Shane at SS CUSTOM CYCLE provides an exceptinal rear Progressive 465 shock for the 1300.  that has been adapted to fit and provide the factory specified 4.3" of rear wheel suspension travel. S&S is currently the only vendor to provide this aftermarket part.

Here are some installation notes on the 465 shock.  This is not a how-to but rather a listing of what you should know about setting up your suspension:

Progressive Front Suspension is excellent for providing a more controlled ride, enhanced handling characteristics and better tracking, something SS CUSTOM CYCLE has been providing since the 2007 V Star 1300 was first introduced in the fall of 2006.  The #1126 kit was initially designed for the 1100, but is the favorite and has consistently worked even better than the newer #1145 kit that was designed for the 1300.

Here are installation notes, recommendations, and warnings directly from Progressive on changing and setting up their progressive front springs. Step-by-step installation instructions can be found here

Either of these spring kits can be had for between $65.00 to $80.00 USD.  Give Shane a call at SS CUSTOM CYCLE and he will discuss each kit with you.
