Recommended Oil
Yamaha recommends using Yamalube 20w-40.
Recommended "Non-Motorcycle" Conventional Oils:
- Mobil Clean 5000 10w-40 - Easily found at Wal-Mart and auto parts stores.
- Any GOOD oil except 5w30 or 10w30. These usually contain friction modifiers that MIGHT make the clutch slip.
Recommended "Non-Motorcycle" Synthetic Oils:
- Mobil 1 15w-50 "Gold Cap" - Easily found at Wal-Mart and auto parts stores. More expensive that Shell Rotella, but arguably the best non-motorcycle synthetic choice.
- Shell Rotella T 5w-40 - Sold at Wal-Mart in 4 quart jugs, relatively inexpensive. Many swear by it, no reported issues. Note that, although it is labeled as a synthetic, it contains up to 98% petrroleum. Watch for any changes to this oil. Diesel oils will soon be required to contain additional additives that may or may not be compatible with our clutches.
Recommended "Motorcycle" Synthetic Oils:
